Safety Guidelines
When used correctly essential oils are safe and pleasant to use. They are however, very concentrated and powerful compounds so certain precautions should be followed. If you have any concerns about their use or effects please consult a qualified aromatherapist or seek medical advice.
General guidelines for safe use:
- Never take essential oils internally
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucus membranes
- Seek professional advice before use if pregnant. NB. Essential oils should never be used in the first trimester of pregnancy.
- Seek medical advice before use if you suffer from epilepsy, high blood pressure, liver disorders,
- If you have allergies and/or sensitive skin a patch test is recommended before use.
- If you have an adverse reaction to an essential oil discontinue use and seek professional advice.
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or before using a sun bed if you use a citrus oil.
Contra-indications:
- Pregnancy
- Epilepsy
- High/Low blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Alcohol
